Egyptian Actress Mona Shalaby Films Series on Real-Life Serial Killer Nurse

Egyptian actress Mona Shalaby is racing against time to finish filming her new series "Qabr Al-Maut" (Death Chamber), a work that digs up one of the most horrific criminal cases Egypt witnessed in the 1990s. In the project, directed by Karim El-Shennawy, Shalaby portrays a nurse who exploited "air injections" to end the lives of dozens of patients in a government hospital. According to sources, the production team is nearing completion of filming the entire hospital set—the location where the main events unfold—with the participation of many secondary actors to portray patients. El-Shennawy and his crew are scheduled to move to Alexandria in the coming days to film the exterior scenes, in line with the geography of the real story, whose events took place in the "Bride of the Mediterranean." According to the show's plot, the nurse commits these crimes to obtain financial sums in exchange for getting rid of patients, using injections to end their lives without leaving a clear trace. The series sheds light on murder attempts that targeted more than 30 patients, which concluded with the death sentence being issued against the real nurse. The show's creators aim to present a psychological and suspenseful drama that breaks away from clichés by focusing on the psychological motivations of the main character and preparing sets that accurately mimic the medical reality of that era. The series is expected to mark a strong comeback for actress Mona Shalaby to "psychological drama" roles amid great public anticipation for the show's premiere as soon as post-production is complete, especially after her success in "Sahab Al-Ard," which aired during the 2026 Ramadan season. The series stars alongside Shalaby a number of art stars, including Ali Qassem, Rashdi El-Shamy, Hamza El-Ally, and Helim El-Gendy. It is written by Mariam Naoum and directed by Karim El-Shennawy.
