Former Al-Zamalek player and TV host Mohamed Sabri died on Friday in a tragic car accident in the Fifth Settlement area of New Cairo. He was 51 years old. Security sources reported that the accident occurred while Sabri was driving on a side road. He suddenly lost control of his car, which swerved and crashed directly into the wall of a building under construction, leading to his instant death.Mohamed Sabri, a former star for Al-Zamalek and the Egyptian national team, celebrated his 51st birthday this past April. Born on April 7, 1974, in the city of Belbeis in Sharqia, his first match with the first team was in 1994 under the late Mahmoud El-Gohary. Sabri scored a rocket-like goal against Ahmed Shobier, Al-Ahly's goalkeeper, and the match ended with Al-Zamalek winning 2-0, with both goals scored by Nigerian player Emmanuel Amunike. Sabri repeated this feat in the 1998-99 season with a beautiful goal against Al-Ahly's goalkeeper Al-Hadri, earning him the nickname "The Cannonball."Sabri won 15 titles with the White Knight from 1993 to 2003, including two Egyptian league titles, two Egypt Cups, three CAF Champions League titles, three Egyptian Super Cups, one Cup Winners' Cup, three CAF Super Cups, and one Afro-Asian Cup.Sabri was part of a historic generation at Al-Zamalek in the 1990s, alongside prominent players such as Ahmed El-Kaas, Ayman Mansour, Kasi Said, Afnat Nasar, Khaled El-Gandour, Ismail Youssef, Hazem Imam, and Nader El-Sayed.Sabri left Al-Zamalek after 13 years with the club, moving on loan to Kuwait's Kazma, before playing for Al-Ittihad of Alexandria and then retiring from football.
