An investigation has revealed that the 12-year-old child fell to the bottom of the pool immediately after reaching the finish line in his race and remained there for 3 minutes and 34 seconds without any intervention from lifeguards or observation by referees, which led to his death inside the pool, according to a statement from the Public Prosecution. Egypt's Public Prosecution has referred the officials of the Egyptian Swimming Federation to a criminal trial with accelerated procedures, following the death of the young swimmer Youssef Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Malek from Al-Zuhur Sports Club. He died during his participation in the Republic Swimming Championship, held at the swimming complex of Cairo International Stadium in early December 2025. The Forensic Medicine report confirmed the cause of death for the child, Youssef Mohammed.
