Workers of the human rights organization in the Egyptian governorate of Giza freed a girl who had been held in captivity for 6 years, shackled with iron chains in her grandfather's house in the Badrashin area. Her brother and uncle, who had kept her all this time, were arrested.
The Badrashin police received a communication from the house's owner about the fact that her daughter, a 25-year-old woman, has been in captivity at her grandfather's house with shackles for 6 years. After arriving at the specified house at the mother's request, human rights activists found a closed and hidden room with an iron lock. Inside, they discovered the girl, shackled with iron chains to the wall, bound by her right leg.
According to information from the Egyptian newspaper "Al-Ahram", the girl was subjected to brutal confinement and harsh treatment over the past 6 years after separating from her husband. The girl’s brother and her ex-husband, along with their uncle, were arrested. The girl told the human rights defenders that since the moment of separation from her husband, she had not left the room where she was found and that her condition was due to the treatment she received in the family.
She also reported that her father, before his death, collaborated with her grandfather and brother in keeping her in that room. An arrest took place, and an investigation began. Social media users were outraged and expressed their concern over the incident, demanding the prosecution of the perpetrators and providing assistance to the girl, who suffered both psychologically and physically.
