In Egypt, it has been announced that the National Authority for Communications Regulation has prohibited the sale of new lines without biometric data and supporting documents confirming the identity of the client.
This measure is taken in order to combat anonymous SIM cards that can be used for committing crimes and terrorist activities. Now operators must ensure that each subscriber provides supporting data about themselves and also undergoes the identification procedure through biometrics.
Regulatory representatives noted that all existing subscribers must also provide their biometric data and supporting documents for registration by the end of October, otherwise their communication services may be blocked.
