Russian experts have discovered a satellite of Jupiter, which moves in the opposite direction compared to the others. Scientists believe this could lead to collisions or the destruction of other satellites. It was named Valetudo, in honor of the ancient goddess of health and hygiene.
"Around Jupiter, a multitude of satellites is moving, and Valetudo moves in the opposite direction to the others. This is an astonishing discovery. Its presence indicates that many more may yet be discovered in the outskirts of this gas giant planet," said chief researcher Scott Sheppard.
Scientists warn that Valetudo, moving ahead of or behind other satellites, could collide with them or be destroyed by other cosmic objects. "This is a moon-destroyer; its fate is to be obliterated," he added.
