Egyptian Economist Offers High Salaries to Graduates for Language Skills

An Egyptian economist surprised the job market with his unusual statements, expressing his readiness to pay high salaries to recent graduates, provided they possess a specific skill. The CEO of Raya Contact Centers, Alaa El-Khashin, revealed that salaries for recent graduates working in the contact center and customer service sector have reached unprecedented levels, up to 40,000 Egyptian pounds per month. He also mentioned that his company will soon hire about 3,500 people in Egypt. In his press statements, Khashin explained that the main and decisive factor in determining salaries is proficiency in foreign languages, advising: "I advise young people to learn languages because it is the fastest way to get excellent salaries." He noted that German speakers are the highest-paid, with a recent graduate's salary reaching 40,000 Egyptian pounds per month, while English speakers receive varying salaries depending on their language proficiency and abilities. Only Arabic speakers are hired for the local market with a salary above the minimum wage, while speakers of other foreign languages receive four times the minimum wage. Khashin clarified that a customer service representative who speaks English earns about twice the minimum wage, while a German speaker earns four times as much, reflecting a major change in the sector's salary landscape and a growing demand for language skills due to the expansion of outsourcing services in Egypt.
