
Ruins of military fortifications, military housing, and a ramp were discovered, indicating the possible existence of another fortress in the area, during the current archaeological season at the site of Tell Abu Seif in the region of archaeological finds of Northern Sinai Plateau. The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fatty, emphasized in a statement published yesterday by the ministry, the importance of this discovery, which reveals the secrets of Eastern military fortifications of Egypt during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, as well as the significance of the site of Tell Abu Seif as a military and industrial center over the centuries. The General Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, explained that this discovery contributes to a more accurate representation of Egypt's fortified system along its eastern borders and confirms that Sinai has always been the first outpost and eastern gateway of Egypt. He added that the expedition managed to uncover characteristic architectural designs of Eastern gate two discovered fortifications of the Ptolemaic and Roman periods on site, which helps to reconstruct the oblique entrances of the fortified system of that time, and also uncovered a large oblique ramp located more than two meters deep at the entrance to the Ptolemaic fortress, which was likely part of the fortified system, subject to isolation at the angle.
