Egyptian writer Ibrahim Ismail has completed his latest novel, titled "Amr.. Where There is Unity", in which he presents for the first time the life story of Egyptian singer Amr Diab through a literary work that combines narrative, historical, social, and artistic dimensions.
Isa described the novel as an exceptional project. It began with over 16 hours of recorded conversations with Amr Diab, in which the singer spoke about his upbringing, career, and artistic life. Isa believes this topic is worthy of deep exploration to understand how Amr Diab reached such an exceptional status.
Isa also revealed that the project was initially conceived as a television series, but Amr Diab suggested starting with a literary novel that would form the artistic foundation for the work. The Egyptian writer agreed, seeing it as a proposal that reflects Diab's appreciation for the value of the literary text.
The writer emphasized that this work is the first Arabic literary novel in history to document the life of an artist. He stated that all previous writings on the subject were either memoirs or journalistic pieces, whereas this project offers a complete fictional narrative with its own characters, events, and history.
The novel traverses the history of Egypt through the journey of Amr Diab, starting from his beginnings in Port Said during the era of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, through the 1967 war, his youth during the eras of Sadat and Mubarak, the period when he performed on the Pyramid Street in Giza, and up to his current stage.
The novel also explores the musical evolution that Amr Diab introduced to the Egyptian and Arab scene, incorporating numerous human and intellectual details from the singer's life.
