Yesterday, 17 Egyptian workers suffered from food poisoning after consuming a 'pasta with meat' meal from one of the restaurants. The injured were transferred to the general hospital in Mahalla al-Kubra in Gharbia province to receive the necessary treatment. Official statements confirmed that the victims' conditions are stable and that extensive investigations have been launched to uncover the causes and hold those responsible accountable. Mahalla General Hospital reported that a limited number of victims are still under medical observation, but their health is stable, and they will be discharged once full recovery is confirmed. It was also clarified that most of the victims left the hospital after receiving the necessary medical care, having suffered from severe fatigue and continuous vomiting due to consuming suspected spoiled food. The Health Directorate has collected samples from the suspected leftover food, in addition to six samples from the restaurant in question, to be analyzed in the directorate's laboratories to accurately determine the causes of the incident. Following the follow-up on the victims' conditions, Major General Ashraf El-Gendy ordered intensified surprise inspection campaigns on restaurants and food preparation and handling establishments. The campaigns resulted in the confiscation of 18 kilograms of meat of unknown origin suspected of being spoiled, and the seizure of another 46 kilograms of unsuitable meat, along with 8.5 kilograms of liver and hawawshi of unknown origin. Additionally, 12 reports were issued for health violations and lack of food safety requirements, bringing the total confiscated items to 72.5 kilograms of meat unfit for human consumption.
