Egyptian Man Poses as Twin Doctor for Two Years

An Egyptian man with a Bachelor of Science degree posed as his twin brother, a doctor, at a family health unit in a village for two years without being discovered. The incident took place in 'Jazirat Nakla' village in the Beheira Governorate. The investigation was launched after a nurse working at the unit filed a report with the police, discovering that the person who had been conducting medical check-ups on residents for two years was not the actual doctor, but his twin brother, a science graduate. Following the arrest of the two brothers, they confessed to the crime. It turned out that the real doctor had secured a lucrative job offer at a petroleum company, but the Beheira Health Directorate refused to grant him a 'no-pay leave' to work for the company. Consequently, the two brothers decided to exploit their striking resemblance. The science graduate took on the doctor's duties at the health unit to ensure his brother could maintain his government job while focusing on his work at the petroleum company. A necessary report was filed, and the accused were referred to the prosecution for investigation on charges of forgery of official documents, impersonation, and practicing medicine without a license. Investigations revealed that the accused bore such a close resemblance to his brother that it was impossible for staff and patients at the health unit to tell them apart. The 'fake doctor' would regularly receive patients and conduct medical examinations, but he was cautious with difficult or complex cases, often claiming to be busy to avoid making critical medical decisions that could expose him.
