Today, the National Railways of Egypt announced that a train hit two children in the locality of El-Ayyat, one of the districts of the Giza governorate, south of Cairo. In an official statement published on their Facebook page, the authority stated: "At 7:43 AM, train number 185/2603 Suhag - Port-Said, passing through a crossing in Bolida, under the protection of a garage and service patrol between El-Ayyat and Bolida, hit two children who crossed the tracks without using the designated crossing."
The National Railways also noted that "after the incident, residents congregated at the crossing and began to attack the crossing attendant, setting fire to the garage cabin, which led to delays in train movements in both directions." The authority called on the public to "only use designated areas for crossing (transitions) and not to cross the tracks in unpermitted locations, in order to safeguard the lives of citizens and the property of the authority."
