Children's nutrition during the study period is considered one of the important matters that concern mothers and guardians. The aim of organizing a healthy nutrition system for children is to maintain their health and ensure they receive the right healthy foods that contribute to building their bodies correctly.
In this context, the Egyptian Ministry of Health revealed the most important methods and sources of children's nutrition during the study period, aiming to achieve better health and protection for them. The ministry indicates that the healthy dietary system for schoolchildren aged 6 to 9 years should include appropriate amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, in addition to essential vitamins and minerals.
The daily caloric intake is determined based on physical activity and growth. For example, the needs of children aged 6-9 years range between 1200 to 1800 calories per day for females, and between 1200 to 2000 calories per day for males.
The ministry stresses the importance of having a breakfast meal specifically, as this meal is considered very important for providing children with the necessary energy throughout the morning. It is recommended to consume main meals (breakfast - lunch - dinner) in addition to two light snacks. Children should preferably consume a balanced breakfast that includes various nutritional components they need for activity and concentration during the school day.
The ideal breakfast meal that should be consumed before going to school includes a range of important components like grains, proteins, healthy fats, and vitamins. The ministry recommends incorporating a sandwich with cheese and vegetables along with fruits to ensure adequate nutritional value to stimulate the child's growth and strengthen the immune system.
