The Moscow Nizhny Novgorod District Court has initiated legal proceedings against Facebook. The decision was made after the federal antitrust service accused the social network of violating Russian competition law. Facebook is required to pay a fine of 17 million rubles for the violation of the law.
A Facebook representative stated: "We are currently studying the court's decision and taking necessary measures." The company claims that it collaborates with Russian authorities and complies with Russian legislation. At the same time, Facebook may appeal the court's ruling.
The antitrust service accused Facebook of violating competition laws in relation to Russian media companies. The federal service stated that Facebook abuses its dominant position in the market and restricts competition.
Facebook is currently one of the largest social platforms in the world. The company is actively developing its services, including in Russia, and has a large user base. However, the conflict with the antitrust service may affect its operations in the country.
