Egyptian Actress Sues Preacher for 5.7 Million Pounds over Defamation

Egyptian actress Miar Al-Biblawi is back in the news today, Sunday, as a specialized court in Cairo hears a compensation lawsuit filed by Al-Biblawi against the famous preacher Muhammad Abu Bakr for 5.7 million Egyptian pounds over charges of slander and defamation. Al-Biblawi's lawyer, Abdullah Awad Mansour, had filed a compensation lawsuit before the Cairo Economic Court, demanding that Muhammad Abu Bakr be ordered to pay a total compensation of 5 million, 750 thousand, and one Egyptian pound, based on a final conviction in a case of slander and defamation. The lawsuit also stated that the Egyptian preacher had previously been convicted after it was proven that he had posted a video on his personal "Facebook" account containing slanderous and defamatory phrases and accusations that harm honor, constituting an attack on family values and misuse of social media. The lawsuit added that a court of first instance had sentenced the defendant to two months in prison and a 20,000 Egyptian pound fine, in addition to ordering him to pay 50,000 Egyptian pounds in temporary civil compensation. This ruling was upheld by the Court of Appeals while suspending the execution of the prison sentence, before the Court of Cassation rejected the defendant's appeal, making the ruling final and binding. The lawsuit indicated that the harm caused to the Egyptian actress was not limited to the moral aspect but extended to substantial material damages, represented in the cancellation of media contracts and her deprivation from television appearances, in addition to family and psychological damages, and the expenses she incurred for treatment and legal fees for the case. The story dates back to April 2025, when the retired Egyptian actress sparked controversy by talking about her divorce and return to her first husband 11 times, which prompted the Azhar Sheikh to comment on that, and the actress threatened to sue the latter for defamation and slandering her and accusing her of "adultery". In turn, the Sheikh responded to the actress that he had not talked about her with slander or defamation, commenting in a live broadcast on "Facebook": "I did not attack Miar Al-Biblawi with slander or defamation, I described the act and did not talk about the person.. Why did I mention her name at first? Because she is the one who spoke and she is the one who made the statement". He added: "I presented a religious ruling that I will be held accountable for before God, and I may apologize to the actress in one case if the court rules with acquittal, and I will apologize to her because she was upset". In turn, the retired actress broke down during a live broadcast on "Facebook", saying that she did not care about what was being said about her, but the matter reached the point of discussing her chastity and honor, confirming that one of the famous preachers had accused her of adultery during one of the videos he broadcast via the "TikTok" application. She added that Miar was in a state of astonishment from that accusation, especially since she holds a master's degree in Comparative Fiqh and a PhD in Religious Discourse and Islamic Culture. Miar revealed that she is facing a major crisis due to these accusations, as members of her family cut her off, especially her eldest son, who no longer communicates with her because of that, adding that her uncles had contacted her while in a state of extreme anger and demanded that she clarify what is happening and resolve that crisis.
