Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the Egyptian Al Ahly club, issued a decree on Friday instructing the club's legal advisory team to join the defense team for former player Ramadan Sobhy, based on the 'firm principles on which Al Ahly was founded,' which include supporting its members and standing by their side. The decision mandates that the club's legal advisor, Shady Al-Barqouky, join the defense and coordination team, alongside instructing Al Ahly's sports legal advisor, Abdullah Shatata, to provide all necessary legal support. This legal backing from Al Ahly comes at a critical time when Ramadan Sobhy (currently a player for Pyramids) is facing immense legal pressure. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has suspended the player for four years for doping, meaning he will be absent from the fields until 2029. The player's crisis is compounded by his current imprisonment in connection with a case of exam forgery at the Abu Nomras Institute, which has doubled the legal pressure on his football future. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Pyramids club issued an official statement on Friday, acknowledging the exceptional circumstances its player Ramadan Sobhy is going through, reaffirming its full and unconditional support during this 'ordeal' and appreciating the support provided by the Al Ahly board of directors under Mahmoud Al-Khatib's leadership, and welcoming the efforts of the 'Red Giant's' legal team in his defense. The club emphasizes that all members of its organization and Ramadan Sobhy's family stand behind him, as the Pyramids legal team has been working since day one, in coordination with the player's international lawyer, to study and explore all available legal avenues and prepare the necessary resources to support the player, continuing the club's efforts to support him at all levels during this sensitive phase of his career. In this context, the Pyramids club called on sports and international institutions to stand by the player and support him, stressing the need to respect his privacy and his fundamental right to defend himself and pursue all legal recourse. The club also confirmed its full respect for all judgments and rulings of the Egyptian judiciary, noting that the date for the next hearing in the case may be set for December 30th.
Al Ahly to Legally Defend Ramadan Sobhy
Al Ahly's president has ordered the club's legal team to defend former player Ramadan Sobhy, who faces a four-year ban and imprisonment. Pyramids club has also voiced its support.
