Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah has been nominated for the BBC Sports World Sports Star of the Year 2025 award. He is among six athletes shortlisted for the prize, which has previously been won by Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Erling Haaland. The other nominees include Spanish footballer Mariona Caldentey, American boxer Terence Crawford, and Japanese baseball player Shohei Ohtani. The current titleholder, Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, has also been nominated again, along with track and field star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrón. Salah's nomination came hours after his outspoken remarks criticizing his club, Liverpool.
