Salah sets Africa Cup of Nations record by scoring against 11 teams

Mohamed Salah, Egypt's captain, set a record in the Africa Cup of Nations by scoring against 11 different teams in the continental tournament, after netting against Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals. Salah, Liverpool's forward, made the score 3-1 in the 52nd minute before Gila Douai scored the second goal for Ivory Coast. Thus, Salah surpassed the partnership with Andre Ayew (Ghana), Samuel Eto'o (former Cameroon striker), and Didier Drogba (former Ivory Coast captain), who scored against 10 different teams. Previously, Salah scored against Ghana and Burkina Faso in the 2017 Cup of Nations, DR Congo and Uganda in 2019, Guinea-Bissau and Morocco in the 2021 edition, and Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Benin in the current tournament. Salah has now taken his total goals in the tournament's history to 11, equalling his current coach Hossam Hassan. He is just one goal away from equalling the record of Egypt's all-time top tournament scorer, Hassan El-Shazly. According to Opta statistics, Salah is the most goalscorer in the Africa Cup of Nations since his first appearance in 2017. Egypt will face Senegal in the semi-final in a repeat of the 2021 final on Wednesday, while Morocco, the tournament hosts, will face Nigeria in a battle to reach the final.
