Egyptian Al Ahly, the most decorated winner of the African Champions League, has been eliminated from the competition after a 3-2 loss to Tunisian Esperance in the second leg of their quarter-final on Saturday. Esperance advanced to the semi-finals with a 4-2 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 1-0 at home. Al Ahly took the lead in the 10th minute when Mahmoud Hassan (Trezeguet) scored from a cross by Aliou Dieng. Trezeguet's initial shot was blocked by the defense but rebounded to him, allowing him to find the net from the left. Florian Danhou equalized for Esperance in the 68th minute before Mohamed Amine Tougaï gave the Tunisian side the lead with a penalty in the 78th minute. Hamza Al-Jalawi scored an own goal for Al Ahly in the 84th minute, leveling the score after Marwan Osman's header deflected off him and into the net. However, Al-Jalawi made amends for his error by scoring the winner in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, heading in a powerful corner kick from Youssef Msakni. Esperance will face the winner of the Mamelodi Sundowns vs Stade Malien tie in the semi-finals.
