Grand Egyptian Museum Opens in Cairo

Tomorrow, the Grand Egyptian Museum will be officially inaugurated in Cairo, which narrates the history of ancient Egyptian civilization through thousands of artifacts. Media described it as a 'gift from Egypt to the world'. The museum, which took 20 years to build on an area of half a million square meters at a cost exceeding one billion dollars, is expected to attract five million visitors annually. It features famous artifacts, as well as exhibits of ancient Egyptian civilization displayed for the first time, distributed across 12 halls. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the presence of 80 official delegations at the opening ceremony, including 40 delegations led by kings, princes, presidents, and heads of government. The Irish company 'Heneghan Peng' designed the museum's stone and glass facade to resemble the 'Fourth Pyramid' on the Giza Plateau, near the famous three pyramids of Giza. One of the museum's halls houses the complete collection of King Tutankhamun, discovered in 1922 in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Upper Egypt. In the museum's atrium stands the colossal statue of King Ramses II, weighing 83 tons and standing 11 meters tall. It has been moved several times since its discovery in 1820 before reaching its final home in the museum. Additionally, a separate building of 4,000 square meters has been designed in the museum specifically to host the solar boat of King Khufu, described as 'the largest and oldest wooden artifact in human history'.
