Egypt and Somalia Enhance Strategic Partnership

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated that the military's participation in the African Union mission in Somalia is not intended to threaten any nation. Following a meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, both leaders signed a joint political declaration to elevate Egypt-Somalia relations to a strategic partnership.

The President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated that the involvement of Egyptian armed forces in the African Union mission in Somalia is not aimed at any country's aggression.

According to the president's press service, Sisi's meeting with the President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud took place at the Ittihadiya Palace, after which two bilateral negotiations were held, for which an extended statement with delegations from both countries followed. A joint political declaration on enhancing the level of relations between Egypt and Somalia to the level of strategic partnership was also signed, both presidents signed it, and there were also several memorandums on cooperation between the two states signed by the ministers of foreign affairs of both countries.

This occurred after Sisi's meeting with his Somali colleague in Cairo on Thursday.

Al-Sisi said: "We pay special attention to issues of development and stability on the African continent, and we are ready to support Somalia in realizing tasks aimed at restoring state institutions and ensuring security in the country."
