
At the meeting of the Extraordinary Summit of the Arab League in Cairo, held on Tuesday, the plan of Egypt for the restoration of the Gaza sector was adopted. The final statement of the summit stated that the goal of the proposals for the restoration of the Palestinian enclave is the preservation of sovereignty over Gaza and the western bank under unified sovereignty. The plan also stipulates support for communications between the western bank and Gaza, emphasizing that "peace is a strategic choice of the Arabs." The participating countries of the summit also affirmed their position regarding the rejection of attempts to displace Palestinians and the necessity to find a realistic alternative to this project, as well as support for the ideas of the two states.
The final statement also talks about the necessity to define a path to a new political and security context in Gaza, and asks the UN Security Council to deploy international peacekeeping forces in Gaza and the western bank.
At this summit, the leaders of the Arab states, they discussed options for the restoration of Gaza. The adopted plan for restoration, created in conjunction with Palestine and Arab states, is based on research by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund related to early restoration and the restoration of Gaza, proclaimed an Arab plan, and proposes the provision of financial, material and political support for its realization.
The financial advisory group, the organization which will take financial obligations from all countries and charitable foundations, aims to implement projects for restoration and reconstruction.
In turn, at this summit it was emphasized that the Bahraini monarchy, in a statement from May 16, 2024, categorically rejects any attempts to force Palestinians to leave their land or return internally. Such attempts are regarded as a serious violation of international law and a crime against humanity. The summit also condemned the policy of starvation and extermination, aimed at forcing Palestinians to leave their homes, emphasizing the necessity for Israel, the occupying state, to comply with relevant international resolutions, rejecting any attempts to change the demographic structure of Palestinian land.
The Egyptian president thanked the participants of the summit for their efforts and support and stated the importance of adopting the Egyptian plan for Gaza by Arab states.
