A police assistant in southern Cairo, Egypt, was sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in the theft of official property from the court in the Bab al-Khalq area.
According to local reports, the first accused, who works as a police assistant in the transport and court security department of Cairo security, exploited his official position, allowing others to gain unauthorized access to the courthouse in southern Cairo to steal property belonging to the Southern Cairo prosecution.
Investigations revealed that the accused removed security barriers that interfered with the commission of the crime, which enabled his accomplices to commit the theft, which included twenty shelves from a storeroom after the door to the room was forcibly opened.
During the investigation of the case of the accused, it was revealed that the second and third accused, who work as metal sellers, collaborated with the accused during the commission of the crime after they arranged with the police assistant about providing them access to the court and seizing property.
As for the fourth accused, a metal seller, he was charged with concealing the stolen property with full knowledge that it was obtained as a result of theft of state property.
The court justified the third and fourth accused from the charges presented by them after the protective measures established a link, at the time when criminal proceedings regarding the second accused were closed following his death during the investigation.
