Singer Hassan Shakoush Sparks Anger with Harassment Comments

Singer Hassan Shakoush sparked widespread anger on social media with his comments on the 'bus girl' incident, blaming the victim for what happened, while calling the young man 'very respectable'. In a live broadcast on TikTok, he said yesterday: 'If she puts 20 things in her trunk and tells you the man harassed her, it's obvious what she wants. If she were a decent girl, she wouldn't put those things there, but the man seems very respectable.' Meanwhile, the singer's statements sparked widespread outrage on social media. Media personality Yasmine Khattib launched a fierce attack on Shakoush, considering his remarks an indirect incitement to harassment and opening fire on everyone who justifies crime in the name of appearance or shape, stressing that the real problem is in the mind, not in the clothes. Khattib wrote in a post on her official Facebook page: 'If the girl puts a piercing on her lips, it means she is immoral and a liar according to society's standards, then you must understand that singing in nightclubs behind dancers - according to the same society's standards - is decadence. Your opinion is not important at all... you have no talent or guts.' In another post, Khattib continued her attack, saying: 'It is not surprising that the corrupt defend each other.' In turn, art critic Magda Kheirallah commented on the singer's statements, writing on her personal Facebook page: 'One of the world's misfortunes is that Hassan Shakoush gives his opinion on the bus harassment incident and attacks the girl!! You have no right, Shakoush.' This came after a video of an Egyptian girl documenting her 'harassment' by a young man in one of the new Egyptian buses went viral on social media on Monday. The girl appeared in the widely spread video attacking a young man inside the bus after he 'followed and harassed her,' as she said. While a number of men were sitting watching without anyone volunteering to defend her, which angered many Egyptians. What made matters worse was the young man's calm response, laughing at her anger and gesturing to her clothes. Hours after the spread of the video, which caused widespread anger, Egyptian security forces managed to arrest the suspect in the Moqattam area in Cairo.
