The authorities of Egypt are trying to resolve a conflict that has lasted for many years between landlords and tenants of residential apartments under old contracts.
According to the proposed legislation, there will be a fair rental base established between the tenants and owners of the properties with long-term lease agreements. This will help to regulate disputes and prevent disputes arising from abnormally low prices in old contracts.
One example of a dispute situation is a case of one of the residents of an old building, where she paid around 25 dollars per month for the apartment, while neighbors in modern buildings paid significantly higher amounts. Such unbalanced rental conditions led to serious disagreements and housing problems.
Tenants with long-term lease agreements expressed hope that the new law will allow them to feel more protected in their rights and ensure more equitable living conditions. The old rental rules in Egypt did not take into account inflation and economic development, which led to unequal conditions for different categories of residents.
