In a crucial legislative move to curb the spread of online betting, the head of the Communications and Information Technology Committee in Egypt's House of Representatives announced the start of procedures to block betting applications within the country. The Egyptian deputy stated in a television interview that any blocked betting app will not be allowed to return, explaining that a new legislation is currently being prepared, which includes imposing deterrent penalties on violating betting and online gaming applications, ensuring the closure of legal loopholes that led to their recent proliferation. The deputy al-Badawi emphasized that the Egyptian state does not stand against technological development or digital transformation, but strongly supports it, yet he confirmed that this development must not turn into a tool that harms society, noting that addressing the negatives of cyberspace requires decisive decisions and clear laws.
