57th Cairo Book Fair Attracts Over Six Million Visitors

The Cairo International Book Fair announced that its 57th edition, which concluded the day before yesterday at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre, received over six million visitors over two weeks. Minister of Culture Ahmed Fouad Khannou said, 'The fair continued its enlightening role as a cultural beacon uniting East and West, and managed to attract over six million visitors, indicating an awareness among Egyptian society of the importance of reading.' The Minister awarded the Naguib Mahfouz Prize for the Arabic Novel to the Tunisian Nizar Shakroun, who won it for his novel 'The Days of the Murdered Fatimid.' The event concluded with an evening titled 'Singing Cairo' featuring musical selections.
