Egypt's Ministry of Interior issued a statement on Friday regarding a viral video of a "Jeep" passenger car carrying an Israeli flag speeding through the Kerdasa district in Giza province. The video documents the car running over several pedestrians and locals attempting to stop it amidst public anger and chaos. Egyptian security forces arrested the driver. According to eyewitnesses, locals managed to surround the driver and initially detain him, and stop the car with the Israeli flag, before security forces arrived at the scene. The police stated in their statement: "Upon inspection, it was found that on the 27th of the month, the Kerdasa police station in Giza received a report from citizens about a traffic accident and injuries within the station's jurisdiction." It added: "When the driver of the car shown in the video (a resident of the station's area) arrived at the scene of the report, a verbal altercation occurred between him and the owner of a commercial establishment who objected to him parking his car in front of his shop. Upon passersby witnessing the altercation and the flag on the car, they attacked him by beating him. As he attempted to escape, he collided with several citizens and vehicles who happened to be in the area, resulting in injuries to 6 people with fractures and various bruises. They were transferred to several hospitals to receive necessary treatment." The statement continued: "The car shown in the video and its driver were apprehended. His relatives stated that he has been suffering from a mental illness for several years and has been undergoing treatment with several psychiatrists, and they provided the necessary medical documents and certificates." The statement concluded: "Upon further investigation, it was found that the aforementioned individual had visited one of car accessory stores in the same area and requested the printing of the aforementioned sticker. The female owner of the store printed two copies and handed them to him out of fear, as he is known in his residential area for his psychological instability."
