The Egyptian Criminal Court in Giza decided on Tuesday to continue the detention of Al Ahly and Pyramids player Ramadan Sobhy until December 30 in a case of forgery in official documents related to someone else taking his exams. The Public Prosecution had issued a decision to remand Sobhy in custody four days ago pending the court's consideration of the case, which ruled to continue his detention along with three other defendants until the verdict is issued at the end of next month. The Public Prosecution charged Sobhy with forgery in official documents after arresting a person who took exams at a Tourism and Hotels Institute in Giza province on his behalf last May. The defendant admitted that he received a financial reward from Sobhy in exchange for taking the exams on his behalf. The court rejected Sobhy's lawyer's request to release the player on bail and decided to continue his detention along with the person accused of taking the exam on his behalf, and two others on charges of facilitating forgery. The Public Prosecution had previously arrested Sobhy before releasing him on a bail of 100,000 Egyptian pounds (about two thousand dollars), but it decided to detain the player last Saturday after he gave his statement in the case. Sobhy (28 years old) has been playing for Pyramids since 2020 after transferring from the English Huddersfield Town.
