The historic city of Luxor in Egypt is preparing to celebrate the winter solstice today at the Temple of Amun, marking the beginning of winter. Ayman Abu Zid, head of the Egyptian Association for Tourism and Archaeological Development, stated that this astronomical phenomenon is one of five that occur annually at the Karnak Temples, demonstrating the advanced level of ancient Egyptian astronomy and engineering. 'This architectural thought process continued from prehistoric times, through the Old Kingdom, to reach its peak during the New Kingdom,' he added. Abu Zid also affirmed that the Karnak Temples represent a comprehensive architectural and astronomical system, indicating the prosperity of ancient Egypt in various sciences and arts, and the skill of the ancient Egyptian people in astronomy and engineering. He noted that the solar astronomical phenomena witnessed at the Karnak Temples are not just a tourist event, but scientific phenomena that carry a profound message, confirming the sciences and arts of Egyptian civilization that taught the ancient and modern world, and the architectural thought of the ancient Egyptians, not just astronomy.
