Amin is a general for the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, announced that a special committee is measuring the humidity level in the tomb of Queen Nefertari and studying the possibility of its re-opening in accordance with certain regulations in order not to affect its increased visitors. Ismail confirmed in a statement issued yesterday that the tomb is in good condition of preservation. According to the statement, the general secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt made a visit inside the tomb, located in the Valley of the Queens to the west of historic Luxor in southern Egypt, and monitored the recent events in the tomb and changes in the humidity level within it.
It can be noted that the tomb of Queen Nefertari was discovered in 1904 by an Italian expedition under the guidance of scholar Sekhmet. The Palace of Hetepheres Institute, together with the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, began the restoration of the tomb in 1986 and opened it for visitors under a special rule. In March of this year, the tomb was closed to visitors and is undergoing restoration and protecting its architectural structures, reliefs, and colors.
